Dr. Lau Cher Han, a regular Hackathonist, Web Generalist and Data Scientist. He attended Queensland University of Technology, Australia to obtain his PhD degree, which he researched and built a system to detect news topics from Twitter, by building a machine learning model, using text mining, sentiment analysis and organic metrics.
In 2004, Dr. Lau represented the country and emerged as the World Champion for Microsoft Excel, which he used to solve challenging data problems. As a hacker generalist, he participated in hackathons to chalk out innovative solutions to solve real world problems. The most recent one was Highlight on Demand, a personalised sports highlight engine, the grand winner of Astro GoInnovate Hackathon.
Dr. Lau led the Academy team in MaGIC academy, and currently a mentor-in-resident for MaGIC. He provides technical training from web development to mobile apps prototyping, aiming to grow local startups and accelerate their product development cycle.
Dr Lau gained his experience along his exciting career path. He developed a news editor decision support system, for Australia Fairfax Digital, by making us of multiple data streams. During his time in Australian Institute of Future Environment, he made IoT and big data to meet, for the purpose of an automatic Green House Gas Analysis System, which is able to collect, analyze and publish data automatically. He is also known for the developments of natural Habitat Monitoring System while his tenure at Microsoft Research Centre. This system can be used for the detecting the presence of Birds and Koalas.
During his free time, Dr. Lau loves to play and watch basketball, and of course, analyzing NBA statistics.

Dr. Jowynne Khor is the Program Director for Cummunity & Events team in MaGIC. She is leading a team to build tech startup community & maker community within the region. Her team delivers programs to nurture and empower startups to the next level. Her team also manages the coworking space, which house entrepreneurs and startups that will be connected to the public sector, private sector or corporates when they are investor-ready in the country.
Prior to her engagement with MaGIC, she was the Program Director, Asia Pacific of IASA (a professional body for the IT architects) for the past 8 years. Projects, which she was involved in, includes setting up chapters in the region (Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Korea and Australia), launched marketing campaigns and creating awareness on IT Architecture related subject matters.
She also co-founded a special interest group under IASA called Gorgeous Geeks (a woman in tech platform) with other 7 women. Gorgeous Geeks design programs or activities suitable for 3 different focus group of women; professionals, entrepreneurs and girls.
Her background involves in programs structuring and strategies alliances with corporate customer in IT industry.
